Game Developers Conference 2010

Today marks the first day of blogging for me. GDC 2010 in San Francisco was definitely a humbling experience. After meeting and networking with industry professionals I realized my portfolio needs a lot of work, and to get my name noticed I decided to add a blog to it. The next few weeks will be keeping me busy recreating all of my videos and restructuring the site; expect some content to be cut and redone.
Since this was my first time at GDC I can't compare it to past conferences. Instead I'll fill you in on what I experienced. I had bought the Summits and Tutorials pass, and the best workshop was the Level Design in a Day workshop. With lead level designers such as Jim Brown (Epic), Joel Burgess (Bethesda), and Matthias Worch (Visceral Games) the eight hour long tutorial was packed with great information. Even better, after the workshop ended we followed some of the speakers to a nearby Marriott for a lobby party. Speaking one-on-one with Joel was the equivalent of meeting a movie star for other people; I was stoked. The rest of GDC included some more lectures and tutorials (almost all of which were riveting) and the Google phone giveaway. I don't know how many people will develop apps for the Nexus 1 and Droid, but I know that I am grateful and excited to have received one.Overall GDC was a great time, and I can't wait for next year.
