New games, new models, and new websites. Oh my.

It's been a really busy past few week for me. Not only did I graduate, but as the title implies I've been hard at work on some things. First off, I have a new website layout (number 5?), let me know what you think. I made it more compatible for smaller viewing sizes, so there is less scrolling on netbooks. I haven't made it IE compatible yet, and I'm wondering if I'll ever get around to it or not.

Anyways, on to the fun stuff! This past weekend was the IGDA Phoenix sponsored 48 Game Jam. I entered with my teammates, five of us in total, and we set out to make a much more playable game than last time. The theme was Motherhood, and so we settled on Brendan's idea of "Get the Flowers". You play as little Ms. Gretl Walrus who's objective is to collect enough flowers for her mother before important daily events, like Snack Time. I was responsible for the entire Field level (look for DLoo's Link statue!), as well as doing terrain and trees for the others. It was a great excuse to learn Unity's Tree Creator tool, which was really easy to use and quite powerful. The game was made in 48 hours, so it's a little rough, but it should be playable. You can download the .exe here. I hope you laugh as much as we did :)

I'm nearing tentative completion on a new modeling project, this time a shield for TradeSecret. The Junk Shield was an interesting lesson in how to optimize - I modeled the chains in the hopes it wouldn't be as expensive as it turned out. The good news is I got to practice unwrapping it all. I plan on learning normal mapping very soon, and will replace the chains with  those instead. Here's a quick render of the diffuse map WIP.

Last but certainly not least, we've officially moved TradeSecret into Beta status. There are only a few things left to really get it going, such as some animations, database work, and boss AI and we hope to accomplish a high level of polish over these next few months. While we work on that, a few of us have also begun on a brand new project that we're very excited for. No spoilers just yet, but it will be a drastic change from TradeSecret.
